Spring is in full swing around here and I've been trying to spend as much time enjoying it while I can until Summer arrives and it's too dang hot to move. I didn't exactly intend to leave this space neglected for so many weeks and as much as I'd like to say it was because I was having so much fun... the truth is, I just haven't been very motivated to write lately. Inspiration, for me, is very fleeting and when I started this blog, I promised myself that if I wasn't "feeling it" then I wouldn't try to force it. There's no fun in that and as we know, consistency isn't really my thing anyways. But hey, here's a little look at what's been going on!
LOTS of hiking! We've been hitting the trails quite a bit lately and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite activities. B was supposed to hike the GA to NC portion of the Appalachian Trail last April, but everyone bailed on him at the last minute and he had to cancel the trip. He was so disappointed and tried to talk me into going along, buuuuut I just wasn't ready for that. Now that we've spent more time in the woods, I'm slowly becoming more comfortable with the idea and have started considering the thought of attempting it. In the future. The distant, after-I've-had-lots-of-practice-and-several-overnight-hikes-under-my-belt, future. What can I say? I was raised on the beach, not in the woods!
Working on my photography skills! I'm saving up for some new gear (I haven't decided exactly what yet) but in the meantime, I've been making a conscious effort to take my current camera along with me just about everywhere I go. Photography has always been a passion and favorite hobby of mine, but I struggle terribly with self-criticism which has sometimes prevented me from pursuing it for months at a time. I'm thrilled to say I've been feeling inspired once again and I'm trying to take full advantage and learn and improve as much as I can.
In addition to taking more pictures, I've also upgraded my editing programs to the latest editions of Lightroom and Photoshop. I've used Lightroom 3 briefly in the past, but I never took the time to really learn how to use it to its full potential. I've been doing a lot of studying and watching a ton of tutorial videos and I'm kicking myself for not doing so sooner! Even though I previously did all of my editing through Photoshop Elements, I don't think I'll be working with Photoshop CC as much- it was just more cost-effective to subscribe to both programs together with Adobe's new Creative Cloud service.
Last but not least, I celebrated yet another year of my existence! Yes, I had a birthday a few weeks ago. And no, no one took any pictures. I am actually a huge fan of birthdays, almost obnoxiously so, and I've never quite understood those who dread them. Sure, aging is no fun once you've hit all the exciting social milestones, but I try to think of it as more of an accomplishment. Many people don't get to celebrate their next birthday, so what right do I have to complain about a privilege they were denied? Also, I am perpetually twelve and every birthday feels like my thirteenth birthday where I wake up thinking, "I AM AN ADULT NOW!" only to realize a few weeks later, "Just kidding. Still twelve!" Every year I feel this way. EVERY. YEAR. #nevergrowup
And because I know you're nosy, I am 12 x 2 + 4 x 0 - 4 x 2 + 8 x 2. I am also bad at math so who knows if that's right.
Have a lovely week!
